The Rakaposhi peak is located in Nagar Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan and 100 kilometers north of Gilgit town. The 7788-meter peak is the highest point of southern sub-range of the Karakorum mountains and it can be viewed from the Karakoram Highway.

Beautiful, one of the most, but at the same time difficult 7,000ers. Success is a result that depends very strongly on the season, but it is much lower than for other 7,000ers. Due to the difficulty of climbing, also for unpredictable weather.

The main climbing window occurs between June and August, as the snow is generally more stable during these months, and conditions are more favorable at higher camp elevation for summit bids.

Grade D/Technical level 4. So much harder than the Spantik, peak 7000. Requires expertise in ice, glacier, endurance for the massive vertical gain from base to the summit.

The “Southwest Spur/Ridge” route was taken on the first ascent in 1958 and remains the common route. Other routes are the Northwest Ridge, and the technically much harder North Spur.

Usually not. Being a 7,788m peak most experienced climbers usually tackle Rakaposhi in “oxygen free” conditions. Oxygen bottles may be available in an emergency upon prior request.

Typical Program A Professional itinerary will usually consist of a total 35 - 40 days which would cover traveling to Islamabad ,trek to the Basecamp, climbing period of 25 - 30 days for acclimatization and making for the summit, and traveling back.

Rakaposhi: is famous for wind and sudden avalanches "The shining wall" face is very steep, hence snow does not cling well. It is generally an icy face with lots of spindrift.

Yes. Any expedition over 6,000m in Pakistan require a Ministry of Tourism permit and royalty. Black Yak Adventure takes care of all government briefings and the required paperwork for expedition permits.

Signal is minimal – sometimes the odd SCOM signal comes through in Minapin/Hapakun region. But for the expedition we have carried Sat phones for communication with Skardu office / Emergency Services.
