Typically all our treks are linear (you will trek up to K2 Base camp and use the same route on the way down). We are providing an entirely circumnavigation. We take you deeper into the heart of the Central Karakoram National Park and visit the base camp of four separate 8,000m peaks (K2, Broad Peak, G-I and G-II) and come out through the remote Gondogoro La pass into the fertile Hushe Valley.

You’ll be walking under K2 (8,611m), Broad Peak (8,051m), Gasherbrum I (8,080m), and Gasherbrum II (8,035m) directly under their shadow.

Total trip will be 20-23 days, including domestic flight on Islamabad-Skardu route as well as much needed weather/acclimatization days.

The trip begins with a thrilling drive via rugged roads from Skardu in a jeep to the roadhead in Askole. Upon completion of the glacial circuit and traversing the pass, the trip comes to a halt in the picturesque Hushe valley. We would again return to Skardu from the Hushe valley.

This is a challenging and strenuous, high-altitude trek. It will involve trekking over unstable glacial moraine, overcoming constant freezing temperatures and an extreme altitude roped pass crossing with technical elements.

Your own level of physical conditioning is going to have a huge impact upon your ability to participate. You need to have a strong cardiovascular capacity, a powerful core and the capability to walk 6 to 8 hours per day with a relatively light daypack. Previous experience of multi day treks in a high altitude environment (Everest Base Camp, Kilimanjaro, or Inca Trail, for example) would be beneficial.

Your objective is Gondogoro La at 5,585m. Altitude is a real issue; hence why our schedule is paced and is primarily along the Baltoro Glacier, allowing your body to adjust to the elevation and the transition.

Semi technical – The climb and the rappel take place up/down steep slopes of ice/snow and you will be using the fixed lines, a climbing harness, a helmet and crampons. No advanced mountaineering abilities is needed but you would find it helpful if you have experienced with using crampons and climbing on fixed lines.

We plan to start crossing sometime before midnight so that we can reach the summit for sunrise. It is best to cross before dawn, so that the snow and ice haven't yet begun to thaw, which increases our chances of avoiding any falling rocks and snow avalanches on the way down.

The most important factor on our Black Yak Adventures trips is safety. If our guides judge the pass to be unsafe from rockfall or due to blizzards we will implement our contingency: a safely turn back and hike down the Baltoro Glacier via Askole.

The place name of the beautiful union of Baltoro and Godwin-Austen glaciers is Concordia. What makes Concordia special at a world level is that you step out of your tent and gaze in any direction, seeing a panorama of four 8,000m peaks!

You'll be camping in luxury, all weather-protected, dome-style two-person tents (single tents can be arranged). We also set up huge, insulated dining and meeting tents.

Each expedition has it’s own full-service kitchen team to take care of delicious, high carbohydrate, healthy meals every day. Menus are a mix of local cuisine, continental cuisine, hot soups and tea.

Before our expedition arrives at the pass we will establish a specialist Rope Fixing Team to fix the pass with new top quality safety ropes. All of our guides hold wilderness first aid qualifications, high altitude rescue skills, sat-phones, full medical oxygen packs and first aid kits.

Local Balti porters are vital support crew for your expedition, carrying all of your main camp equipment, cooking gear and main bag (15kg per trekker limit) while you just carry your day pack.

If you require evacuation due to a critical medical emergency, we work directly with Askari Aviation for helicopter evac to a military facility in the nearby town of Skardu.

Please Note: Helicopter evacuations up to 6,000 meters can only be arranged on possession of comprehensive medical and travel insurance for helicopter rescue.

Crampons, climbing harness, helmet, ascender (Jumar) and a locking carabiner will also be required on top of the regular trekking gear for cold weather. We at Black Yak Adventure will help you out on renting these technical gear in Skardu.

We strictly follow the Leave No Trace principle. All our camp's non-biodegradable waste is packed, weighed and transported all the way back down to Skardu for disposal in designated areas.
