Laila Peak Base Camp trekking route falls in the category of strenuous and challenging. This is recommended for trekker with excellent cardio fitness and stamina to withstand days long walking at high altitude remote region.

The ascent to Laila’s summit involves significant technical climbing. Fortunately, our trek to Base camp involves no climbing; we don’t "rope up" or use crampons or ice axe for this. What’s most important to be comfortable with is traversing unsteady terrain - particularly on loose moraine and icy ground studded with rocks.

On average, expect to walk for between 5 to 8 hours a day. This is subject to the terrain you’re travelling on and whether a particular leg of the trip, like crossing the Gondogoro Glacier, demands more effort.

Climb to High Attitude At 4,600m you reach your highest camp Khuspang. You must get your self use to such height before. Khuspang is built in itinerary in Black Yak Adventure program so there will be time for you to have some rest and acclimatize your self.

Glacier Traverse The most challenging section of the trek. We will be walking over hard ice and some live moraine (loose rocks) of various size. This is not really "climbing" but demands attention to your footing and good, solid trekking boots.

Altitude comes into play on any Karakoram expedition. That is why we use an ascending pattern here at Black Yak Adventure, allowing your body time to get used to the altitude without much difficulty. Our experienced guides are always watchful for signs of fatigue to the altitude to guarantee a pleasant journey for all of our guests.

Weather on the Karakoram It's notoriously changeable. You'll find warm and sunny weather on lower campsites like Saicho 4200m but the temperature will often plummet well below freezing at Khuspang 4600m particularly after dark, and winds tend to whip round the peaks.

As expected, resources are scarce up in the high mountains. Luckily we camp at Saicho Camp; a lower elevation with a milder climate, and water to enjoy before or after our glacier legs.

If you’re a regular hiker that can bear a light daypack for 6+ hours and have done multiday treks, you’re more or less prepared. A strong, regular workout program before you arrive and a strong “will to wander” are arguably the two critical components.

Between mid-June and the end of August is generally considered to be the perfect time. By then, the snow will have melted from the lower passes, and the weather conditions in Baltistan tend to be the most favourable for trekking.

There’s very little mobile service once you leave Skardu. While you may get patchy service in Saicho, anticipate being truly off the grid for the majority of your trek. Black Yak Adventure guides are equipped with satellite communications for emergencies.

Your guides are qualified for high altitude first aid. In case of minor accidents we bring an extensive first aid box along. Should a serious emergency occur, we will arrange for a military helicopter to evacute you (if you are properly insured).

No. We use professional, locally hired porters for carrying expedition equipment and for transporting your duffle bag (a limit is placed on size). You will be provided with a small daypack to carry just water, camera, and an extra layer of clothing.

High quality, waterproof hiking boots with aggressive lugs (Vibram soles are a plus). Technical crampons typically won’t be required for the hike to basecamp but some people utilize "micro-spikes" for increased purchase on the ice.

We advise against drinking water directly from the glacier. Boiling water and/or chemical treatment of water are available in every camp site.

Yes, we bring private toilet tents on the trek and place it in all the overnights camping location. We operate our trek by leaving no trace, which means we take great effort in keeping Karakoram's natural environment intact.

Night temperatures even in the peak of the summer month of August still plummet to –5C or even –10C at this height. A four season sleeping bag would be indispensable for a peaceful nights sleep.

Yes, permits are necessary to enter the prohibited area in Pakistan. Black Yak Adventure will take care of all necessary permits with the appropriate government bodies on your behalf.

No need to be a pro of climbing; it's best suited to intermediate to advanced hikers. Prior high mountain experience (above 3000m) is advisable and you must feel comfortable spending nights in a tent. For your first time in high altitude, ensure you have followed a training routine at least 3 months before your departure date.
